And couldn’t think of a better way RECORD STORE DAY 2010 – The Return of ReleasesThis just in: Watch a great video about some of this year’s releases. Hosted by Chris Brown of the New England indie chain Bull Moose (and he’s modest, but we’re gonna give him some extra special props: Record Store Day? Yeah, that was his idea.) 
It’s getting crazy up in here. All kinds of releases are coming out of the woodwork, and we’ve tried to put together a comprehensive list download here. (and webpage here) A couple of things to keep in mind: There will most likely be additions to this list, and things even we don’t know about yet. We’ll add releases and details as we learn them. And if something is limited, we’ve listed that here as well. And yeah, most Record Store Day releases are limited. And some of them are super-CRAZY limited. Also, we don’t tell a store what to bring in, nor do we sell the pieces ourselves. That is a relationship between store and distributor, and not all stores will have all pieces, and there are probably going to be some pieces that no store has enough of. That’s what limited releases are all about. So talk to your favorite store: find out what they will have, tell them what you want. It’s a present in the form of two free tracks from their upcoming record, Dirty Side Down, which you can pick up at indie record stores on May 25. RECORD STORE DAY COMMUNITYThis year we’ve been amazed at all the cool stuff that artists, stores and communities are putting together for our little holiday. So we thought we’d share just a little bit of that here. This is BY NO MEANS all the cool stuff, and if something’s not on here, it may just mean we don’t know about it yet. We encourage everyone to check with their local stores to see what’s up in your neighborhood. If you’re in a record store, then you’re doing Record Store Day right. THE GIVING AND THE GETTING: Even more places where celebrating Record Store Day can give you that warm, fuzzy, I-did-good feeling: At Amoeba in Hollywood, a donation to Pablove.org will get you a nice t-shirt, screenprinted ON THE SPOT. At Recorded Memories in Spokane, they’ve been offering up CONAN O’BRIEN tickets to the sold out show, and are holding a bakesale which benefits the Alzheimer’s Association. Now, really what goes better with music than tasty baked products? (Hope they have brownies—they are a particular RSD HQ favorite). HOW MUCH WOULD YOU PAY FOR… At Harvest Records in Asheville, NC you might not have to pay for all your Record Store Day goodies. They’re hosting a free raffle, and those tickets might just get you a Beatles Mono Box Set, among other fabulous prizes! (Oh and the Drive-By Truckers in-store set is free at Harvest, too). LOVE ACROSS THE AIRWAVES So there’s a guy with a radio show in NYC, who loves his record stores. So much so that he’s pressing up his own record, full of live performances from his on-air show or concerts, and he’s giving it to local NY record stores to sell on Record Store Day only. And he’s NOT ASKING FOR ANY MONEY. Which means ALL the proceeds from buying this record go to your favorite store. LOCALS RULE: Zia Records will be selling Volume 4 of You Heard Us Back When, their local music compilation. This year’s is a double disc with 30 tracks in celebration of Zia Records turning 30 and finally being a grown-up. THE LIST IS GROWING New stores are popping up every day and at least two of them are having GRAND OPENINGS on Record Store Day.
