#1 R*B Song 1969:  “Share Your Love With Me,” Aretha Franklin

1963   Lou Rawls performed at Detroit’s Twenty Grand Club.

1969   Ray Goodman & Brown’s cover of the Platters’ “My Prayer” (#47 pop, #31 R&B) charted, becoming the last of their fourteen Top 100 entries (including eleven as the Moments).

1975   Drummer Buddy Miles had his last of five R&B hits when “Rockin’ nd Rollin’  on the Streets of Hollywood” charted, reaching #33.

1986   New Edition’s “Earth Angel,” from the film Karate Kid II, reached #3 R&B and #21 pop. The song had originally been a hit and subsequent standard for the Penguins in 1954-55.

1997   Two of the most raucous rock ‘n’ rollers you’d ever want to see, Little Richard and James Brown, performed at the New York State Fair. Brown once stated, “When I do my music I include a lot of people, but nobody’s really involved except myself —just God and me. I guess I’m like Einstein—let ’em worry about my theory afer I’m dead.”

1997   Usher (Usher Raymond) jumped on the R&B hit list with “You Make Me Wanna,” reaching #1 and #2 pop. It was the biggest of his twenty chart entries between 1993 and 2004.

1998   The O’Jays, the Isley Brothers, and Earth, Wind & Fire performed at the Chastain Park Amphitheater in Atlanta, GA.
