BLACKATLAS.COM: YOUR PASSPORT TO THE BLACK EXPERIENCE

Over the past few months, I have posted on travel sites that cater to a Black American clientele. Here,  here, here, and here.

Now there is a new site launched by American Airlines, and hosted by Nelson George, (editor of the site), that targets Black American travelers. The website is called BlackAtlas.com. Since Black Americans travel just like anyone else, and many of them use the services of American Airlines, AA felt that Black customers are a very important base to be reckoned with, and thus was created BlackAtlas to serve as an extension of recognizing the specific marketplace that Black Americans offer to the airline industry.

Like some of the black travel sites I have mentioned previously, BlackAtlas is a meeting place for prospective (and seasoned) travelers to discuss their experiences in the United States, Africa, Europe, Asia, the Carribean, South America, and many other vacation spots across the globe.

Just as Black Americans find their history in America, they also find the black experience in countries outside of America.

The connections that Black Americans have with each other, and the rest of the world, are truly profound, and travel helps to broaden that base of connection. Black people have made their impact in so many countries, in cuisine, language, dance, music, technology, just to name a few things that come to mind.

The BlackAtlas.com community focuses on travel: what to do, what to see, what to eat, where to stay, how to get around. But, here it is taken a step further:  considering the uniques needs of Black American travelers. So, whether you are looking for the archeological finds of the Moors’ presence in Spain and Italy, an African dance company in New York City, or soul food in Paris, France, BlackAtlas helps you begin your journey.

Welcome, BlackAtlas.

I look forward to visiting your site, and a great thanks to American Airlines and Nelson George, for getting this wonderful site off the ground and into the air.
