AMADO ANGELITO … BELOVED ANGEL

_____________________________________________________________________________

His tiny little body was found on March 13, 2003, in Houston, Harris County, Texas in a garbage dumpster by a maintenance man. Because of the condition his body was in, thin and showing obvious signs of starvation, and the evidence gathered by forensics, the Houston Police Department ruled his death   Homicide by Starvation.

He was a child between 3 to 6 years of age, unidentified Latino or white, 2′-5″ to 2′-6″, approximately 18 to 28 pounds, dark-brown to black hair. His facial features stand out:  bushy eyebrows, long eyelashes, his right ear larger than his left ear. He had surgical-type scars on his body one of which was where an IV may have been placed in his jugular vein, two small vertical scars on his abdomen.  He was found  in a grey-colored afghan type blanket, his body having been placed in a red/white-checkered bag. He was wearing only a diaper with bears on the front.

The officers of the Houston Police Department named him “Beloved Doe”. Like all innocent children who come into this world, he was an Angel. An angel who never had the chance to live his life fully in this world. Someone who cared nothing for him allowed him to starve until his precious life slipped away. Someone sneaked out, possibly under cover of darkness, to toss his lifeless body away as if he was so much trash—–and not a little child who had a right to life.

To this day, no one has come forward to identify little Amado.

To this day, almost 5 years later, the mystery surrounding his death still remains unsolved.

With the permission of Ms. Marlene Visser, who has kept Amado’s case in the public’s mind, I have posted little Amado’s composite sketch, in the hopes that someone will recognize him. Someone who remembers seeing him. Someone who cares enough to come forward.

Amado Angelito….Beloved Angel.

We the public may not have known you in life, but, you are with us in our prayers and vigilance that your needless and heartless death may be solved.

Rest in Peace, Little Angel.

You are not forgotten.

“CHILD FOUND IN TRASH STILL NOT ID’ED”:

Monday, February 04, 2008 | 11:33 AM

Nearly five years have passed since the malnourished, withered body of a 3- to 6-year-old boy was found in a trash bin at a southeast Houston apartment complex.

All he wore was a disposable diaper decorated with bears. He had been wrapped in an Afghan-like blanket and put inside a checkered red and white bag.

His death, due to dehydration and malnutrition, remains unsolved and now the FBI is joining forces with the Houston Police Department, the lead agency in the case, and the Texas Rangers to try to identify the boy, determine who dumped his body and why.

“Essentially the child was starved to death,” said FBI spokeswoman Shauna Dunlap. “This child deserves a name and this child deserves justice.”

Officials, who were set to hold a news conference Monday morning, are hoping renewed attention on the case, as well as a $20,000 reward, will help them finally solve the mystery of the boy’s death.

“It’s been five years and essentially no tips have come in the case. These are the cases that are only solved with the public’s help,” Dunlap said.

Dunlap said authorities are hoping they can have success similar to investigators who solved the killing of the 2-year-old girl who was dubbed “Baby Grace.” Her remains were found in October in a plastic box that had washed ashore in Galveston Bay. She was later identified as Riley Ann Sawyers of Spring and her mother and stepfather have been charged with capital murder in her beating death.

“Look at Baby Grace. That case was solved with a tip from out of state. That is certainly a possibility here,” Dunlap said.

The boy in the unsolved case was dubbed “Beloved Doe” and also “Amado Angelito” (Beloved Little Angel).

A maintenance worker at the apartment complex found his body in March 2003. Besides the malnutrition, there were no other signs of abuse or injuries.

The child, believed to be a white male, possibly of Hispanic descent, might have had prior medical treatment. He had a surgical scar on the right side of his neck and two vertical scars on his abdomen. He also had a small mole on his right forearm, close cropped hair, bushy eyebrows and his right ear was larger than his left.

“We are hoping with the assistance of the media, the reward and really just the compelling facts that go along with the story, that it will move someone to come forward and tell us who he is,” Dunlap said.

A photo of the boy, the blanket and bag and other information will be available on the FBI’s Web site, under the wanted section.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the FBI’s toll-free hot line, 1-888-324-4336.
