What does Thanksgiving mean to you and why do you celebrate it?
As we all sit down to a big feast with all the trimmings, let us remember that we are celebrating all of the following:
-Mass genocide of Native Americans (so-called “Indian Wars”) and of Black Americans (lynchings, burnings, torture)
-Grand theft of land of Native Americans (the entire United States); theft of Black people’s property during vicious racial pogroms/racial riots/ethnic cleansing against Black Americans;
-Genetic violence of the massive infusion of rapist blood forced into the veins of Native Americans by European colonists; rapist blood forced into the veins of pure Black Africans during slavery, Reconstruction and Jim/Jane Crow segregation
Racial covenants, Black Laws of the Old Northwest, Black Codes, smallpox infested blankets, obliteration of two peoples cultural traditions (Native Americans and Black Americans). The introduction of measles, mumps into Native Americans and Black Americans; the introduction of syphillis, gonorrhea, into Black Americans.
The onslaught of an annihilation of two groups of people who suffered massive abominations, abominations which still continues to this day.
Just some thoughts on what we are all truly celebrating when we sit down to that big turkey dinner.
