1953 “Dragnet Blues,” by Johnny Moore’s Three Blazers, charted R&B, reaching #8. The song was inspired by the TV show Dragnet.
1960 Jackie Wilson reached #1 R&B for four weeks (#15 pop) with “A Woman, A Lover, A Friend.” The song was based on the Royals’ 1953 recording “I Feel So Blue,” written by old friend Hand Ballard, then a member of the Royals/Midnighters. As if that weren’t enough for the red-hot , the B-side, “(You Were Made For) All My Love,” reached #12 pop.
1964 Martha & the Vandellas’ “Dancing In The Streets” charted, eventually reaching #2.
1988 Aretha Franklin: The Queen of Soul, one-hour public television documentary, was aired. Appearing on the program with Aretha were Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, and Eric Clapton.
1989 John Lee Hooker performed with Albert Collins, Carlos Santana, and Robert Cray, among others, at his seventy-second birthday party in he San Francisco-area Sweetwater Club.
