1953   The Flamingos signed with Chicago’s Chance Records.

 

1964   One of the first Black artists to pursue the business side, Lloyd Price (who began his own Kent label in 1953 and Double L in 1963) began a fund to help Black students obtain scholarships for college.

 

1976   Stevie Wonder and Isaac Hayes performed with Bo Dylan on his Rolling Thunder Revue  in the Houston Astrodome.

 

1982    Rick James won Favourite Album, Soul/R&B honors at the American Music Awards’ ninth annual event in Los Angeles.

 

1993   Mariah Carey received the Favourite Female Artist, Pop/Rock and Favourite Album, Adult Contemporary trophies at the twentieth annual American Music Awards.

 

1994   Michael Jackson, who was accused of child molestation in August 1993, settled out of court for reportedly $20 million while his attorney, Johnny Cochran, went to great pains to establish that it was “in no way an admission of guilt.”

 

1998   Queen Latifah, Martha & theVandellas,the Temptations, Smokey Robinson, and Boyz II Men sang during halftime at Superbowl XXXII at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA.
