SAVE THE DATE: ‘MEN CAN STOP RAPE’ CONFERENCE: JANUARY 24-25, 2009

Here is an excellent site that advocates how men can combat the prevalence of rape, domestic abuse, and violence that vilifies and disparages women and girls. The site gives information on how men can challenge the rape culture we all live in, and that not only are women and girls affected by a culture of misogyny, but, that men and boys as well are negatively affected by the devaluation of women and girl’s lives.

The site also has other features to help in the fight against rape and abuse of women and girls:  “Masculinity in the Media”, a blog forum for discussions; “Strength Mediaworks Posters”; “The Strength Campaign”, and the “Men of Strength Awards.”

The site also has the upcoming date for this year’s “Campus Strength Training” conference  -  scheduled on the following dates:   January 24-25, 2009, at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC.

Men can raise their voices in support of all women to end the violence that assaults the diginity and freedom of movement that all women in America face.

It takes strength to speak up for all women and girls.

Women alone cannot stop rape and abuse.

Men can stop rape and abuse of women and girls.

Their voices are just as important as women’s voices.

Everyone knows that rape is wrong. Talking about it, bringing it out in public discussion is very important.

Working to dismantle the rape culture in which we all live is only the beginning.

Men Can Stop Rape mobilizes male youth to prevent men’s violence against women. We build young men’s capacity to challenge harmful aspects of traditional masculinity, to value alternative visions of male strength, and to embrace their vital role as allies with women and girls in fostering healthy relationships and gender equity.
